RESUMEN

This study was to evaluate the effect of different water amounts and hydrolysis times of silane coupling agent on shear bond strength between lithium disilicate glass ceramic (LDS) and composite resin. Fourteen groups (n=7) of different water amounts (90, 50 and 10%v/v) and hydrolysis times (5, 19, 75 and 300 s) of experimental silane coupling agent that were prepared for silanization, non-silanization and commercial silane coupling agent (CSC) groups. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed no interaction between water amounts and hydrolysis times of ESC on shear bond strength between LDS and composite resin. One-way ANOVA exhibited the highest shear bond strength and the highest mean percentage in mixed failure mode in the 50%v/v group. Molecular analysis of 13C and 29Si indicated that nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of M2 and M3 hydrolysis species were found in 50%v/v group. The presenting of M2 and M3 which was predominant factor contributing to the highest shear bond strength.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to investigate amount of γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS) silanized on experimental nanosilica particles (NPs), amount of NP and amount of MPS silanized NP on flexural strength (FS), flexural modulus (FM), and fracture toughness (FT) of NP reinforced polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The chemisorbed amount of MPS was determined using elemental analysis. Six groups (n=8) were prepared with chemisorbed amount and mixed with PMMA-monomer to make 0.25, 0.5, 1, 5, 10 and 15% (w/w) of NP reinforced PMMA. PMMA without NP served as control. Seven groups (n=8) were prepared with 1% of NP silanized with 0, 0.061, 0.123, 0.246, 0.493, 0.987, and 1.974 gMPS/gsilica and mixed with PMMA-monomer to make NP reinforced PMMA. FS, FM, and FT were determined using 3-point bending test. One-way ANOVA and multiple comparisons showed that 0.246 gMPS/gsilica of 1% amount of silanized NP group was significantly highest in FS, FM, and FT compared to the others (p<0.05).

RESUMEN

This study investigated the effect of fiber reinforced composite resin (FRC) post lengths, ferrule, and full coverage metal crown on fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth (ETT) using an experimental FRC post with the similar elastic modulus of dentin (11.5 GPa). ETT was restored according to 1 of 7 combinations of FRC post length (10, 5, 2.5, 0 mm), ferrule (0, 2 mm), and with/without metal crown (n=6). An oblique compressive load was applied on the restored teeth using a universal testing machine. Fracture loads were evaluated with 1-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD test (p<0.05). Compared with tooth preparation only, the fracture loads of ETT restored with composite resin and different post lengths were not significantly different. The group with the ferrule with metal crown showed significantly greater fracture resistance than the others.
